Facebook ads for online stores: a media buying guide from scratch

Before you spend a single pound on an ad, know the number that, once crossed, means you lose money. Here you'll calculate your product's break-even point, build your campaign funnel properly, review your setup, and generate ad ideas that stop the scroll.

The summary in 30 seconds
  • Know the maximum cost per order you can afford before any campaign — it's the number that separates profit from loss.
  • Successful campaigns work as a funnel: awareness → interest → purchase, with an audience and a message for each stage.
  • Without the Pixel and Conversions API installed correctly, you're spending blindfolded.

Why do most stores lose money on ads?

Most store owners approach Facebook ads with one question: "How much should I put in?". The right question is: "Exactly how much can I pay per order and still make a profit?". The difference between the two questions is the difference between professional media buying and "boosting posts".

A successful ad isn't the one that got lots of likes — it's the one that brought orders at a cost below your profit. And that's an equation you can calculate right now:

Calculate your product's break-even point

Tool 1 · Break-even calculator
Your profit before ads
EGP 370
Maximum cost per order (break-even)
EGP 370
Break-even ROAS
2.16x
You're making EGP 170 on every order

This campaign is profitable. You can scale the budget gradually while making sure the cost doesn't exceed EGP 370 .

ROAS means return on ad spend: how many pounds of sales each pound spent on ads brought back. If your ROAS is below the break-even number above, you're losing money on every order even if sales are growing.

FAQ about Facebook ads

What's the minimum budget to start with?

The budget must be enough to gather sufficient data to judge. A practical rule: your daily test budget should be close to your maximum cost per order (Tool 1), so the campaign can bring in orders and learn.

Should I choose the "Messages" or "Sales" objective?

If sales happen on WhatsApp, the messages objective is excellent. If you have a store with online payment or cash on delivery, the sales objective with a properly installed Pixel gives more accurate results.

Whose name is the ad account in?

With Nibras Media, the ad account, Pixel and all the data are in your name and owned by you from day one.
